In a two-day sprint, our task was to redesign a minimalist desktop-based EU Think Tank website, focusing on refining the user experience through enhanced information architecture.
In the next two days, we aimed to redesign a product's user interface without incorporating UX research. Our task involved reassessing the current information architecture, considering changes to content organization, and adjusting navigation logic, with specific requirements provided by a stakeholder.
We focused on redesigning the EU Youth Hub, an independent voluntary organization of young Europeans supported by ELIAMEP. Their objectives include conducting EU-related research, promoting deliberation, and enhancing the EU's democratic governance system. Savvas Papadopoulos, the coordinator, outlined specific requirements for essential pages, including the homepage, team page, and templates for various content types. These encompassed activities, news, podcasts, events, articles, videos, and policy papers, with a preference for Raleway fonts and EU color palette incorporation. Due to the short two-day sprint, our primary emphasis was on desktop design.
To identify areas for improvement, a design critique involving fellow designers unveiled intriguing findings:
Hierarchy issues that may cause confusion for user
Insufficient spacing, impacting overall visual clarity and user experience
Visual overload due to overwhelming images on the interface
Lack of filtering options, limiting users' ability to organize and find content efficiently
During our analysis, we drew inspiration from three prominent think tanks: GSBTB, Eythinktank, and Europarl. These competitors showcased common strengths:
Clear hierarchy for streamlined navigation
Effective filtering functionality to refine content search
A straightforward and simple layout for enhanced user experience
We retained the Raleway fonts and based our colour pallet on EU colours.
In alignment with the provided style tile, our design emphasizes minimalism to guarantee a seamless user experience. Following the specified requirements, we created a homepage, team page, and templates for diverse content categories, each adorned with video sliders. Additionally, we meticulously designed archive, contact, Terms & Conditions, and privacy pages, ensuring the integration of filtering options to enhance user navigation.
Optimizing an e-learning platform's information architecture to improve user experience, increase conversion rates, reduce bounce rates, and enhance SEO rankings.
