In a one-day sprint, we revamped a concert booking platform, focusing on optimizing the user experience through enhanced information architecture.
Our challenge involved redesigning the UI of four app screens without conducting UX research the following day. We concentrated on reassessing the current information architecture, considering potential adjustments in content organization, navigation logic, and sequencing.
Songkick has transformed into an all-in-one platform for discovering live music events, tracking favorite artists, receiving instant concert alerts, and purchasing tickets for upcoming shows.
In our quest for improvement, a design critique with fellow designers revealed compelling insights:
Hierarchy was found to be confusing, impacting visual flow and understanding
Inadequate white space hindered readability, creating a cluttered appearance
Information overload was observed, potentially overwhelming users
The absence of filters was noted, impacting the ability to refine search results
Personalized suggestions were lacking, potentially limiting user engagement
We drew inspiration from three apps: Eventim, Eventbrite, and Spotify, recognizing their strengths in:
Clear visual hierarchy for seamless navigation
Robust filtering options for enhanced user customization
Streamlined layout to optimize the user experience
Songkick's current color palette, featuring bright red, white smoke, gray, and black, has been a foundation for its visual identity. While these colors complement each other theoretically, their application within the app warrants refinement. To optimize the design and ensure brand consistency, we've chosen to preserve Songkick's existing color scheme. This strategic decision aims to maintain familiarity for current users, preventing a radical departure that might disrupt their accustomed experience. Recognizing the resistance users may have to significant changes, we prioritize a seamless transition while enhancing the overall visual appeal.
We focused on refining the following elements:
Color combinations for visual harmony
Optimizing image and design element sizes
Balancing the quantity of presented information
Introducing filtering functionality
Enhancing sharing functionality
